Open Face Mask Great Innovation for Cancer Patients

When Julie was treated for throat cancer in 2013 with radiation therapy, her only option was a Full Face Immobilisation Mask to keep her head completely still. The mask is a safety measure so that the radiation beam targets the tumour precisely and avoids as much healthy tissue as possible.

Now an Open Face Mask is an option for eligible cancer patients at ICON Cancer Centres in Adelaide. Julie interviewed Lydia Tamblyn, Site Manager at ICON Cancer Centre North Adelaide, about the innovations that have made this possible. In this video we see the technology called SGRT, Surface Guided Radiation Therapy.
